In this recording, made during a highly successful tour of Japan in 2003, Sylvie Guillem is partnered by Nicolas Le Riche in Sir Frederick Ashton's ballet, in roles danced originally by Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev. The ballet is based on Alexandre Dumas' story of the tragic courtesan, 'La Dame aux Camillas', and is set to Liszt's fiery Piano Sonata in B minor. From her deathbed, Marguerite relives, with great poignancy, some incidents from her tragic life: falling in love with Armand, her persuasion by Armand's father to give Armand up for the sake of his family's honour, and their final reconciliation.
THE TOUR: Behind the scenes during the tour of Japan in 2003 - the cameras follow Guillem and Le Riche as they travel, rehearse and prepare to go on stage, giving unique insight into this remarkable partnership
