- This exciting and inspirational story lights up the screen with its raw spirit and sizzling dance moves. Antonio Banderas stars as ballroom dance instructor Pierre Dulaine, hired by an inner city high school principal (Alfre Woodard) to supervise detention for the school's most troubled students. The kids, full of anger and attitude, want nothing to do with Pierre and his classical moves. But when he takes a genuine interest in their hip-hop dancing - and the kids themselves - a new style of dancing is born that takes the students all the way to a national competition ... and to finally believing in themselves.

Feel good movie - Take the Lead review by CP Customer
A really lovely film about a dance teacher (Banderas) who decides to help delinquent kids from a dodgy part of New York by teaching them ballroom. They are all reluctant and scornful at first but his passion for dance rubs off on them and he teaches the kids about respect and self confidence (as well as some teachers and parents along the way). It's in the same vein as the Michelle Pfieffer film set in a rough high school in the 90's (can't remember the name!) but more uplifting. It manages to avoid being overly cheesy and was a very enjoyable evening's viewing.

How to mix classical and modern dancing - Take the Lead review by CP Customer
The basic plot has been often told:
Youngsters who have an aimless life, are introduced to the beauty of something (in this case ball room dancing), and suddenly all gets well - school, relationships, life.
That said, if you like dancing, the film is a great inspiration, and it mixes classical dancing and new dance forms very artfully.
