Watching this collection of educational films documenting the dangers of drugs and alcohol can either be a very funny camp experience, or a sobering reminder that substance abuse has been stalking young people for more than 50 years. It all depends on your perspective. This DVD is a strong collection of some of the most interesting and in-your-face films ever created to try and scare teenagers away from experimenting with drugs and alcohol. One of the earliest clips tries to convince teens of the 1950s that if they start smoking pot, they will eventually be shooting up heroin on street corners.
There are the obligatory clips of successful teens trying drugs only to have their entire lives fall apart, and a classic early 1970s film about a hippie who has tried "everything" - only to become a street corner bum. What?s interesting is that even though these types of films have been shown to generations of teenagers, drugs are still with us today. That is what makes these films so fascinating ? why is it that after 50 years of trial and error educators still can?t seem to get the right message out to the next generation of at risk youth? That is, of course, beside the point.
What you get on this DVD is a collection of well preserved classic educational films that will provide you with a long term perspective on the dangers of substance abuse.
