To escape the edict of the Pharaoh of Egypt, Rameses I (Paul Rhys), to slaughter all newborn males, the infant Moses (Dougray Scott) is set adrift in a reed basket on the Nile. Saved by Bithiah (Padma Lakshmi) the pharoah's daughter, Moses is adopted and brought up in the royal court Upon discovery of his heritage, and inspired by a fiery message from God, Moses implores his stepbrother Menerith (Naveen Andrews), a high-ranking official in Ramses' army, to join him on a fight to reclaim his destiny as the leader and liberator of the Hebrew people.
