The meeting between England, the 1966 World Champions and the tournament favourites, mighty Brazil became a war of attrition as Ramsey's well-disciplined troops strangled the life out of the South Americans. In a game they should easily have won, England dominated much of the game, as Bobby Moore gave a master-class in defending. However no fan will forget the first-half save from Gordon Banks and only a flash of quick-thinking from the combination of Tostao, Pele and Jairzinho wrecked England's hopes of victory.
