Scarier than the original, but not faithful to the original story. - The Amityville Horror review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
03/12/2005

A remake of the 1979 film, 'The Amityville Horror' is the allegedly true story of the Lutz family, who move into a house where, a year earlier a young man slaughtered his entire family with a shotgun. Soon after moving into their new home the horror of Amityville makes itself known to the Lutz's. Overall, this remake bears little resemblance to the original film, and even less to the actual casem and those familiar with the facts surrounding the Amityville haunting may be somewhat irritated by the liberties this version takes. Despite this, the atmosphere of the film is genuinely creepy and tense, and offers a few scares along the way. Ryan Reynolds is pretty good portraying George Lutz's decent into deranged madness, easily shifting back and forth from loving husband and father to abusive maniac within seconds. All in all, if you're not too precious about the original version this is a pretty good horror thriller.
