Made-for-television dramatisation of the satirical ballad opera,originally written and performed in 1728. Set in the fetid confines of the infamous Newgate prison,the story follows the fortunes of the villainous highwayman Macheath,captured and imprisoned amongst the low-lifes of London,and the twisted and devious relationships that form around him.
