- Chris (James LeGros) does not have much to live on and knows he will die soon. Only a complicated operation could save him. That's why he and his estranged children Michelle (Isabelle Fuhrman) and Nick (Joel Courtney) want to make a final trip together in the woods, as they always used to do. When he dies a little later, he leaves the two children alone in the wilderness. But Chris is not dead, still alive. He is in an intermediate world as revealed to him by a mysterious man (played by director Peter Bogdanovich). What's more, the spirit world that Chris always believed in now opens up to his children as well. And that does not just mean good...
