The story of a theatrical family - the Bretts, who live in Edwardian London. The Bretts live on the edge of Hampstead Heath in Nightingale Grove which is where the dramas of their real life play out while the dramas for the public play out in the theatre at matinees and evening performances. Charles (Norman Rodway) and Lydia (Barbara Murray) Brett have been the reigning luminaries of the West End stage since the 1890's and the uncertainties and the rewards of the acting profession have never been harder. The family is fiercely competitive but with a sophistication, charm and chic that has made them the darlings of London's theatre world. A theatre family rarely off stage and never, ever upstaged.
