The series that produced the No. 1 hit single 'Wherever You Are'. In a series that became a national phenomenon, Gareth Malone took on the challenge of forming a choir of military wives while their husbands and partners were deployed on a tour of duty in Afghanistan. While the men were away, Gareth believed that music and singing might help the women through a difficult time of worry and separation; but the emotional torment of the tour proved challenging for even this experienced choirmaster. The wives feel they are all too often forgotten, and Gareth plans several performances for them with the aim of giving the women a voice. They sing to the local town of Barnstaple to help them understand their often difficult lives; at a Commissioning Dinner at the Sandhurst Officer Training Academy in search of a military seal of approval; and to their men at their Homecoming Medals Parade when they return from war. Finally, their crowning achievement: the choir perform 'Wherever You Are', the song based on their letters and lyrics in front of the Queen and Royal family at the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall. It is a night no one who witnessed it will ever forget.
