Acclaimed Canadian theatre director Robert Lepage made his feature film debut with this very accomplished drama/mystery thriller, starring Lothaire Bluteau, Patrick Goyette and Kristin Scott Thomas. After a long stay in China, Pierre Lamontagne (Bluteau) returns to his native Quebec to attend his father's funeral. Once there he reunites with his adoptive brother Marc (Goyette) and together they begin to search for Marc's unknown father. Soon their investigation leads them to Quebec, and in particular to try to find out what happened in 1952 to a young church worker called Rachel, who aged just 16, unmarried, and pregnant and weighed down with shame, unburdened her guilt to a young priest, under the confidentiality of the confessional.
