- Meg Bartlett (Sarah Lancashire) is a child protection officer who is still grieving after having recently given birth to a stillborn baby. When she befriends young mother Christine Rearden (Emma Cunliffe), she begins to suspect that Christine's child is being abused and does everything she can to uncover the truth of the situation.
