In this new, 12-part series for ITV1 Ade Edmondson returns home to Yorkshire to bring us the stories behind a summer in the life of the Yorkshire Dales. Spectacularly beautiful it may be - but the Dales is also a challenging environment for the people who live there in some of its remote communities. Ade used to spend many of his childhood summers in the Dales with his family, but in this series he meets a number of characters who spend the entire year there amidst the beautiful scenery of landmarks like Bolton Abbey and Aysgarth Falls. They include 16-year-old Phillip Mellin who has just left school and is taking on the running of the family farm, alongside his mum Carol, after the death of his dad last year. There's shepherdess Amanda Owen who, with husband Clive, balances running a 900-strong sheep farm while bringing up live young children - the youngest is only four weeks old. And Tom Orde-Powlett who is lord-in-waiting and heir to the historic Bolton Castle. This summer one of his tasks involves training owls to deliver wedding rings to couples tying the knot there. From the Wensleydale Railway to Leyburn Band and a real life Vicar of Dibley, The Dales shows a summer in the life of the Yorkshire Dales through the eyes of the fascinating people who live there.
