The memorable Ivor Novello musical in which success and romance come to composer Rudi Kleber when he meets the beautiful Viennese star Maria Ziegler. He wins her from her lover, Prince Charles Metterling - though he never forgets his friend Grete, niece of the Inn-keeper at whose inn he lived. And he will not forget that when she was fifteen, he promised that he would never ask anyone else to marry him without giving her "first refusal." When Maria hears Rudi keep his three year old promise by asking Grete to marry him, she doesn't stop to hear Grete's refusal. She disappears and marries Prince Metterling, even though she is expecting Rudi's child. When they meet again 13 years later, they both know that they can have no future together, only memories - of 'The Dancing Years'. - Actors:
