The screen adaptation of the second part of the Trilogy by Henryk Sienkiewicz, the author of 'Quo Vadis' and Nobel Prize winner. Deluge deals with the adventures of cadet officer Andrzej Kmicic (Daniel Olbrychski) and his love for the beautiful Olenka (Malgorzata Braunek), set against the historical background of the Swedish invasion of Poland (1655-1660). Kmicic sympathizes at first with the aristocratic Radziwill's who collaborate with the invaders, but soon realizes that he can't support traitors. Eager to redeem his sins and win back Olenka's heart, he tries to kidnap Prince Boguslaw Radziwill (Leszek Teleszynski) and bring him before the Polish King's face. But the Prince wounds Kmicic and frees himself. Having healed and changed his name to Babinicz, Kmicic wins fame for his heroic deeds during the siege of the Czestochowa Monastery. But will that be enough to make Olenka forgive him? 'Deluge' was one of the greatest box office successes in the history of the Polish cinema. In 1975 it was nominated for the Oscar award.
