Michael Farr (Ciaran Hinds) is a teacher raising his children alone since his wife died two years earlier. Lately he's been witnessing strange ghostly phenomenon in his house at night but are they just frightening nightmares or is his house really haunted? When Lena Morelle (Iben Hjejle), an author of books on ghosts and the supernatural, arrives in town for the annual literary festival, they become very close and Michael opens up to her about his ghostly experiences. But Lena's affections are pulled elsewhere. She is attending the festival at the bidding of world-renowned novelist Nicholas Holden (Aidan Quinn), with whom she had a brief affair the previous year and who has fallen madly in love with her. The lives of these three people are now drawn supernaturally into a life-altering collision, eclipsed by love, fear, grief and ghosts of the past.
