These two classic episodes from the 'George Burns and Gracie Allen Show' reflect the smooth transition of Burns and Allen from burlesque through radio to television. "The Wedding'' and "The Tax Assessor" are taken from the shows first season and were recorded live in front of an audience. George Burns thrives on this often stopping the action to do a stand up routine, smoking his eternal cigar and chewing the fat with the audience as the actors freeze waiting for the comedy to recommence. Added to this is the surreal humour and manic confusion created by his terminal naive partner Gracie Allen. Burns described his show as having "... more plot that a variety show but not as much as a wrestling match" These episodes rely on the timing and relationship of this consummate show business couple. When Gracie died in 1964, her loss devastated Burns, in his own words "..for forty years my act consisted of one joke and then she died". Their life, love and comic genius are openly displayed in this video edition. - Actors:
