- The Gilded Age is an American historical drama TV series by Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey. The series centers around 1880s New York City and follows the lives of upper-class families. The Russell and van Rhijn-Brook are among the socialites who clash, but the series additionally follows the African-American upper class trying to fit in and domestic workers just trying to get by.
