A beautiful Painter is obsessed with a singer who she calls 'The Girl'. The Girl takes her to a hotel where they make love. The Girl says "it's just one night", but they continue meeting each other. However, they carry on other relationships: The Girl continues to see men and the Painter continues to see her long-time lover. A Man appears, who seems to know The Girl. At first, The Painter watches The Man from a distance. While The Painter and The Girl engage in an ever more complex game of appearances, so The Man's presence grows ever stronger. The Painter becomes aware that The Man is threatening The Girl. She begins to follow him. The Girl disappears. The Painter searches, but cannot find her. She learns that The Girl and The Man have left Paris together. Eventually The Girl reappears looking more elegant that ever. The Man's control is threatening the intense relationship The Girl and The Painter have built. The Painter becomes desperate. The Painter goes to The Girl's hotel. She finds The Man and The Girl together. Crushed, she runs out. In torment she walks the street . She paints ... But she has to return to The Girls hotel one more time. She discovers The Girl and The Man together again, but for the last time....
