- Living a life of luxury at Redford Hall, Annabella Lagange (Emily Mortimer) is blissfully unaware that her father Edmund (Nigel Havers) is a spendthrift and a womaniser. His debts are threatening to ruin the wealthy family into which he married. Plus Annabella doesn't know the shameful secret that she is the daughter of a local prostitute. Annabella grows into a beautiful young woman but when she reaches 17 her cosy world is shattered.
