Synopsis:
It was the worst possible start to a game. Four goals down within half an hour, Arsenal exploded relentlessly into attack. At half-time, the Magpies were staring down the barrel of defeat; bruised, bleeding, and barely able to hear the referee s count. A resilient Newcastle team emerged after the break, refusing to give way to the visitors, who had mounted a seemingly unassailable lead through a first minute Walcott strike, a brace from van Persie, and a Johan Djourou header. But with Diarby shown the red card early in the second half following fouls on Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan, Alan Pardew s side sparked into life.
Two Barton penalties, sandwiched either side of a Leon Best finish, gave Newcastle a lifeline, and Cheick Tiote s phenomenal 30 yard volley in the dying minutes of the game secured a seemingly impossible comeback and sent the St James Park faithful into raptures. Featuring full match action, relive this classic encounter in which a battling Newcastle United team showed true courage and determination to earn a share of the points from the clutches of defeat.
