A resilient Newcastle team emerged after the break, refusing to give way to the visitors, who had mounted a seemingly unassailable lead through a first minute Walcott strike, a brace from van Persie, and a Johan Djourou header. But with Diarby shown the red card early in the second half following fouls on Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan, Alan Pardew s side sparked into life.
