Synopsis:
The ITV Sessions Ian Gillan: Live in concert video, is one of the first titles released from the ITV Sessions, a multi-part music concert series, featuring some of the biggest names in the UK music scene from the 70s, 80s and 90s. The ITV Sessions feature rare and previously unavailable music concerts, long laying dormant in ITVs archives and include live performances and studio sessions by international hit-makers such as Status Quo, Belinda Carlisle, Pulp, Motorhead, Wishbone Ash, Spandau Ballet and many more. Best known as the lead singer and lyricist for Deep Purple, rock music vocalist and songwriter Ian Gillan is widely recognised as one of the most influential and significant musicians of all time. As one of the foremost vocalists of the heavy metal style of rock that emerged in the 1970s, he began singing in bands while still in his teens, the most notable of which were the Javelins (1962-1964) and Episode Six (1965-1969). Another member of the latter band was bass player Roger Glove, and the two were invited to join Deep Purple in 1969, debuting with the band at the Speakeasy club in London on July 10. During his career Gillan also fronted his own band, had a year-long stint as the vocalist for Black Sabbath, and sang the role of Jesus in the original recording of Andrew Lloyd Webber's rock opera Jesus Christ Superstar
