I love the book and to be honest I was really disapointed with the movie. But I did think that the actress who played Susie was excellent. If you watch the movie having never read the book it is an alright film. It just missed out a little too much of the background themes that made me love the book.
I think this is a brave movie considering the subject matter. I enjoyed it very much and it was tense and gripping in parts. It's not the sort of thing for an after Sunday dinner movie but something when you want to be moved and yet uplifted at the same time. The characters are well played especially the villain and he did it so well, how did he sleep at night! If you like films you will like this but be prepared to also be a upset at what you see.
A relatively accurate version of the novel, although I assume for the age certificate it was decided to overlook the fact that the main character was raped. The scenes of heaven and the "interim" world are quite aesthetically pleasing. A pleasant enough way to pass a couple of hours.
