'The Manor Reborn' is a groundbreaking collaboration between the BBC and the National Trust. This unique partnership brought together two national icons for the first time and produced an incredible story, that is as captivating as it is unmissable.
Presented by Penelope Keith and Paul Martin, 'The Manor Reborn' follows the transformation of Avebury Manor in Wiltshire, a quintessentially British, 500 year-old manor house. Together they transform this historic property, reflecting its life story and putting it into a national and historical perspective.
This fascinating project brought in a lively and interesting team of historians, designers and volunteers to transform the house in four period styles and bring it back to life. Inspired by the real stories and occupants of the Manor - from the age of Queen Elizabeth I to the eve of World War II - the series illustrates the story of British design across five centuries. It draws on a wide range of craft and furniture-making skills and reveals the invention of 'the home'. In addition to restoring nine rooms in the house, the team also recreated and redesigned a kitchen garden.
'The Manor Reborn' celebrates this innovative and ambitious attempt to wake up a sleeping country house, recording the story as it happened and revealing how an intricate collaborative effort has turned a lonely building into a lively and engaging place to visit.
