This second gripping tale sees the return of French detective Julien Baptiste who finds a connection between a new case and one he could never solve. When a young British woman stumbles through the streets of her German hometown and collapses, it soon becomes apparent that she is a young girl who went missing 11 years earlier, Alice Webster. Alice's return sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community, as her distraught family are thrown into turmoil. Alice appears to hold vital clues to the whereabouts of a second missing girl, Sophie Giroux. Upon hearing this, Baptiste races to Germany to pursue a case that he could never let die. Leaping backwards and forwards in time, present and past converge as the shockwaves from Alice's return drive the Webster family apart; and we join Baptiste in Iraq, searching for an AWOL British soldier he believes is the key to finding the second missing girl.
