Back in the days of power cuts and perms, the only way football fans could see the stars of the day on TV was through programmes like Saturday night's 'Match of the Day' and 'The Big Match' on Sunday afternoon. Trophies were few and far between on Tyneside during a period dominated by mutton-chop sideburns and muddy pitches, but the crowds still flocked to watch the Magpies and roar on the likes of Malcolm Macdonald, Terry McDermott and Frank Clark. The Newcastle United Big Match features a number of great games from the 1970's and early 1980's, including Supermac's stunning hat-trick on his home debut in the 3-2 victory over Liverpool in 1971 and a 5-0 crushing of Chelsea in 1974. This video relives an era which has taken on legendary status.
