Dirk Bogarde stars as celebrated war hero Charles Coward in the incredible-but-true WWII adventure The Password is Courage. It’s every soldier’s duty to escape. So says Charlie Coward (Bogarde), a British sergeant major in the notorious German prison camp Stalag VIII-B. So when the men decide to dig a 280~foot tunnel to the trees outside the wire, Coward is called upon to help organize the breakout. Using lies, bribes and sabotage, Coward plays a daring cat~and~mouse game with the enemy as he scrounges the information the prisoners will need if they’re to escape their German captors. Directed and written by Andrew L. Stone, a filmmaker known for his realism, The Password is Courage was based on John Castle’s best-selling book and made with the technical assistance of Sgt. Major Coward himself.
