"The Paul Merton Collection", presented here (in a piece of inspired casting) by comedian Paul Merton, is a lovingly flung together compilation of hilarious clips and brilliant moments of comedy genius from the wide range of Paul's much-loved television shows, many of which have never been seen on video before. It includes specially recorded links, as Paul looks at some highlights of his TV career so far. Already a well-established stand-up comedian, Paul Merton's television breakthrough came in 1988 in the improvised comedy show 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?'. The long-running, topical-satirical hyphen-heavy panel-show 'Have I Got News for You' began in 1990; Paul's deadpan humour and biting wit instantly delighted millions of viewers, and he continues to make the show an unmissable highlight of British comedy TV. His own sketch show 'Paul Merton: The Series' saw him delve deeper into his unique world of inventive and surreal humour, and in 1999 he became host of the comedy chat-show 'Room 101'. The Collection also features Paul Merton's appearances on 'Parkinson and Clive Anderson Talks Back', as well as two versions of his acclaimed short film 'The Suicidal Dog'. Paul is one of the nation's best-loved comedians, and the performances collected on this video show exactly why his unique comic talent is so treasured by his millions of fans.
