"The Perfect Wave" is based on the true story of Ian McCormack who grew up surfing the waters of New Zealand. Ian sets out on a journey with his best friend to chase the perfect wave. Travelling through Australia, Southeast Asia and Africa, they surf incredible breaks and revel in the life of travel, partying and adventure. When Ian meets Annabel, a beautiful and kindred soul, he falls in love and soon abandons his friend. When jealousy overtakes their love, Ian chases Annabel to Mauritius in an attempt to win her back. While in Mauritius, Ian receives news that his brother is getting married and decides to go home for the wedding. The night before he is due to leave, he goes out for a night dive with his local fisherman friends. In the dark water of the reef, Ian is stung by a group of deadly box jellyfish, the venom of which is so virulent that one sting can kill. Left on the shore by a frightened fisherman's son, Ian has to beg and plead for help to get to the hospital. In the ambulance he cries out to God. At the hospital, Ian is soon pronounced dead and is wheeled off to the morgue. He finds himself out of his own body, in complete darkness in a cold and strange place. As Ian struggles to work out what has happened he is lifted out of the darkness on a perfect wave of light, rising to heaven. Ian experiences wave after wave of love and finds himself in the presence of God, where he is given a choice to stay or to return. What will he decide...
