We were looking forward to watching this film as we generally like musicals.....
..... but give this one a wide berth please.
We only lasted about 10 minutes (we did give it a bit of a chance) before we gave up and watched something else.
If I could rate it a zero I would.
Give this film a chance. It's a film representation of a theatrical production, which means it takes a while to get into.
It also takes a while to get going, but after the first few songs, the plot picks up. It's funny, well-acted and performed, and the 2 leads are outstanding.
Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but definitely worth a try.
Having seen the musical live and the original film, this version disappointed us at the cinema and DVD does little to improve things. Everything is in place, including a great cast although Uma Thurman cannot carry off her role.
The main problem with the film is the director has shot it as if she was organising the stage show. This was Susan's debut film as a director and guess what she did previously? Yes, the stage show. It feels slow, bland and almost stuck in gear in certain areas. Really, with this script in the hands of someone who knew how to direct comedy it would have been dynamite. Only now you wish it would just end.
