Synopsis:
Upon the death of his father, city businessman Luo Yusheng returns to his home village to arrange the funeral. Luo's elderly mother is insistent that all of the traditional customs be observed, despite the reservations the village mayor has about the expenses and practicalities of this. Her extreme obstinacy in the matter causes Luo to think back to childhood memories of the stories he heard of his parents' courtship - a romance that captured the attention of the whole village.

Real lives cinema - The Road Home review by CP Customer

Spoiler Alert
17/06/2009

If you are the sort of person who likes movies with real life-like characters, you'll love this film. Set in a small village where most youngsters have left for a better life in the big cities, the movie makes you feel like you are a visitor in the village between its mostly older inhabitants. Telling the story of a teacher that comes from the city to teach the village's children and a native girl who falls for him, the story is beautifully told and the photography stunning.

Reccommended for those who really appreciate getting to know other cultures through movies.

Beautiful and moving Chinese love story - The Road Home review by GF

Spoiler Alert
09/08/2016

A beautiful, simple love story set, amid gorgous Chinese countryside. Much of it us set as a flashback and marked the start of Ziyi Zhang's subsequently giltterring career. Moving and knowing each measure, this is a film and love, the countryside, the value of education in Chinese rural areas and aging, by China's best known Director.
