Hidden away amongst the Western Isles of Scotland is the remote island of Scrap, where a handful of people live a quiet existence. Tucked away from a world of political unrest in the 1930s the last thing the islanders expect, much less want, is visit form Germen rocket scientist. Director Stephen Whittaker’s The Rocket Post is the charming true story of Gerhard Zucher who tried to revolutionize the Western Isles postal service by sending mail in rocket between the isles, and Catharine who falls in love with him. This simple but touching and gently humorous story is beautifully told and truly embraces the desolate yet breathing scenery of the Outer Hebrides.
