On 18th July 1936 the military garrisons of 17 cities (112 on the Spanish mainland and 5 in Spanish Morocco) rose in rebellion against the communist government of Spain. The spark that ignited the Spanish Civil War was the confrontation in the Spanish Moroccan city of Melilla, between a unit of the Spanish Foreign Legion and a communist-led mob. This film, using unique original newsreel footage takes you through all the major battles and incidents throughout the three years of Civil War in Spain, including the surrender in March 1939.
