- Synopsis:
- A Chinese farmer's dispute with the village head leaves the farmer battered and bruised, whereupon his pregnant wife Qiu Ju decides to take the matter to the local authorities. This is the first of director Zhang Yimou's films not to be banned in China; in fact it pleased the authorites enough to cause them to lift the ban on his other films.
