In the wake of Argentina's dramatic economic collapse in 2001, Buenos Aries became a ghost town of abandoned factories and mass unemployment. Part of a new movement of workers, occupying bankrupt businesses and creating jobs in the ruins, thirty unemployed car workers return to their idle factory, roll out sleeping mats and refuse to leave. Here they are forced to run the gauntlet of courts, police and politicians who can either give them legal protection or evict them from the factory. Set against this is a crucial presidential election, in which Carlos Menem the architect of the economic collapse, is the front-runner. The workers armed only with slingshots and an abiding faith in shop-floor democracy, must wait and see the outcome and prepare to take on the bosses, bankers and a system that sees their factories as nothing more than scrap metal for sale.
