A faithful interpretation of writer/journalist Michael Muhammad Knight's groundbreaking novel, directed by Cleveland-born Eyad Zahra and shot in the director's home city, this raw, intense, humorous and moving film deals with the complexities of being young and Muslim in America: a story that, in 2010, had yet to be written into the landscape of American independent cinema. Yusef, a first-generation Pakistani student, moves off-campus with a group of Muslim punks in Buffalo, New York, where his new "unorthodox" housemates introduce him to Taqwacore - a vibrant hardcore Muslim punk rock scene that exists only on the West Coast. As time passes, Taqwacore comes to influence the house more and more: the living room becomes a mosque during the day, while continuing to host punk parties at night. Ultimately, Taqwacore brings about profound changes in Yusef's fife, as he begins to challenge his own faith and ideologies. - Actors:
