When Nazi soldiers flood the streets of Paris, a young Jewish boy (Alain Cohen) is sent to live in the relative safety of the French countryside with an elderly Catholic woman and her anti-Semitic husband (Michel Simon), who warms to the boy while not knowing of his religion. Acclaimed director Claude Berri makes his feature film debut with this semiautobiographical story, laced with comedy and tragedy, that is based on his wartime experiences.
