Samantha Morton's directorial debut is a clear-eyed portrait of a young girl uncertainly suspended between the care of incompetent parents and an overwhelmed social-services system. Working alongside acclaimed writer Tony Grisoni, Morton has created a fictional script that gives an honest and intimate child's-eye view of the care system in the UK. Badly beaten by her father (Robert Carlyle), 11 year old Lucy (Molly Windsor) turns to the social services for help and finds herself in a chaotic children's home, sharing a room with Lauren (Lauren Socha), who after initial hostilities takes Lucy under her wing.
