In 1965 Diego Mora (Yves Montand), militant of the Spanish Communist Party, lives exiled in Paris. He regularly crosses the Franco-Spanish border with documentation of other people to go to Madrid and serve as a liaison between other exiles like him and the militants who suffer the dictatorship in Spain, in addition to meeting with his lover Marianne (Ingrid Thulin).
