- Washed-up novelist Tony Barrett (GaryCooper) is disillusioned, broke...and married to a woman who won’t let him forget it. Forced to retreat to his ancestral Connecticut home, Barrett finds inspiration in his Polish immigrant neighbor’s beautiful daughter, Manya (Anna Sten). Away from the eyes of the world, Barrett and Manya soon fall into a passionate but hopeless affair. But when their love is discovered by her father, Manya is forced into marrying another man. Desperate to hold on to the only true love he’s ever known. Barrett will have to stop the wedding...even if it means facing deadly consequences!
