Frankie (Gene Reynolds), a New York City street urchin who harbours a love for classical music, finds tickets to a concert by the great violinist Jascha Heifetz. Feeling inspired by the performance, he enrols at a nearby music academy. The schoolmaster, professor Lawson (Walter Brennan) allows the talented Frankie to sleep in the basement of the troubled school, which is facing bankruptcy. Along with Lawson's daughter Ann (Andrea Leeds), Frankie organises a benefit concert to save the school.
