In the 17th century, the Ottoman Empire has conquered south-eastern Europe but the holy war for conclusively endorsing Islam continues. A Bulgarian Christian region is selected by the Ottoman rulers to serve as an example of conversion to Islam. A Janissary Karaibrahim (Iossif Surchadzhiev), who was kidnapped from the village as a boy, is sent to force the reluctant inhabitants to convert. The Turkish governor seeks a peaceful solution, but ultimately torture, violence, and rebellion break out. Among the people who are to be converted , Karaibrahim discovers his father (Konstantin Kotsev), his brother Goran (Stoyko Peev), his sister Elitza (Kalina Stefanova) and his closest friend Manol (Ivan Krystev). Even that does not shake his conviction to enforce Islam in the cruelest way.
