This programme is the definitive story of the building of the Titanic, and includes interviews with people who saw the great vessel being built and launched and those whose lives it touched in different ways. The film also revisits the slipway at the Harland and Wolff shipyard where, in 1911, 15,000 shipbuilders worked on the construction of the Titanic and its sister ship the Olympic. Belfast-born film director Bill McQuitty, producer of the 1950 film 'A Night to Remember', which first told the epic story of the Titanic disaster, is interviewed and clips from the film are also featured. The legacy of failure that haunted Belfast for a century following the disaster has at last given way to a view that encompasses positive feelings of achievement about the building of such an engineering marvel as the Titanic.
