There have been many maritime disasters, but none have caught the public imagination in such a dramatic and lasting way as that of the Titanic. On April 10,1912, the Titanic left Southampton for New York under the command of Captain Edward John Smith. On April 14, she collided with an iceberg, breeching six of the watertight compartments claimed to make her "unsinkable". For over 70 years the Titanic lay undiscovered in the depths of the Atlantic until she was found by scientist Dr. Ballard in 1985. Using still, archive footage and an interview with one of the few remaining survivors, this video follows the tragically short life of the Titanic and the disaster that should never have happened.
