Popular Mexican singer Pedro Infante stars as a Mexican Indian who dares to romance an upper-class white woman (María Félix) in this Berlin Film Festival and Golden Globe winner from director Ismael Rodríguez. Doomed from the start, the lovers find the racial barriers of their repressed nation insurmountable, and tragedy dogs them. Infante died in a plane crash shortly after the film was completed.
