Puccini's best-known opera, a tragic tale of love, intrigue and betrayal in Napoleonic Rome, is performed by an international cast including Eva Marton, at the famous Arena di Verona. In Rome, 1800, former consul Cesare Angelotti seeks refuge with the painter Cavaradossi in the Attavanti chapel. Cavaradossi's lover Tosca, however, believes that he has another woman, and betrays him and Angelotti to Baron Scarpia, the chief of police.
