Synopsis:
'Trafficked' is a gritty inner city nightmare in which the naive and innocent are exploited and corrupted by a malevolent underworld populated by gangsters, pimps and whores. In the modern European city of Dublin comes another new recruit to the sex trade. Trafficked in the back of a van, young African girl Taiwo (Ruth Negga), believes she is about to start a new life free from the oppression at home. But she soon finds that she is trapped in a dark seedy underworld of vice and drugs. She meets small time hood Keely (Karl Shiels), who unwittingly changes both their fates when he steals her from the gangsters she was supposed to work for.
Boasting excellent performances from Shiels and Negga, 'Trafficked' is relentless and nasty, realistic and confrontational in its attitude to the 21st Century human trafficking sex trade. Keely, is merely the tip of an iceberg of malice, as the levels of the criminal underworld and the users of that underworld are laid bare in all their sublime glory. Yet, as we travel through this world we also catch a glimpse of tender humanity as an unusual love story develops and grows into a moving relationship of mutual dependence and mutual trust.
