Bronx, N.Y. 1980. Three twelve-year-olds: Joey, Louie, and J.J. meet after J.J. moves from Harlem to the Bronx with his mother. Soon after J.J. arrives, Joey and Louie help him when he is threatened by six school bullies who try to steal his lunch money. The three become best friends. Filled with the mischief of youth, the three steal chickens, play hooky and become general nuisances, until they witness Big Tony the neighborhood mob boss, kill a man. The three boys vow to keep it a secret. Fifteen years later, the boys are still the best of friends, and dreaming of opening their own bar. Joey works for Paulie, who runs the local Italian social club for Big Tony. Louie works at the family pizza shop and J.J. is a grave digger. But the future will never become what they expect. One will marry, one will die and the crime they witnessed will come back to haunt them. But through the best and the worst of times, Joey, Louie and J.J. stick together.
