This thrilling feature film from the last century revolves around the lives of men and women who work for a circus. Marjorie Main's portrayal of Sara Post, a hard-bitten, no-nonsense boss is worthy of an award. The rare occasions on which she lets her guard down provide an insight into a soft heart, which circumstances and the demands of a tough job compel her to mask. Director Karl Brown too is at his best, focusing on seemingly unimportant incidents that eventually add to the true-life quality of the film. The trapeze acts are captured to thrilling effect, and you will find yourself holding your breath on several occasions as the aerial acrobatics of Penny and her co-artists hold the audience spellbound. Outstanding photography, imaginative direction and some noteworthy performances have gone a long way in turning an ordinary plot into an extraordinary feature film.
