Series three of 'Upstairs, Downstairs' takes place between 1912 and 1914, starting with Lady Marjorie's fateful voyage on the RMS Titanic and ending just prior to the advent of World War I. Richard Bellamy (David Langton) must cope with life without his wife and wastrel son James (Simon Williams) settles down and gets married, although the relationship is uneven at best. The domestic staff are headed by Hudson (Gordon Jackson) the Butler, a conservative and very proper Scot who has to contend with the 'below stairs' behaviour of the household staff, among them cook Mrs. Bridges (Angela Baddeley) and maidservant Rose (Jean Marsh).
